January 2009 Entrepreneurs Forum:
Revenue Model Workshop
The January 2009 Entrepreneur's Forum will feature a new format - the Revenue Model Workshop. At this event we will select ~5 startups to give a brief presentation of their business, focusing on their revenue model. A panel of experts will provide insights, suggestions, and helpful alternatives for the entrepreneur to consider as methods to generate more revenue from their business more efficiently. As with other Ultra Light Startups events, this format is intended to be interactive and participatory - the audience is encouraged to provide helpful suggestions as well. Depending on the response, this format may be repeated at future Ultra Light Startups events.
Entrepreneur Presentation:
- Presentation should be ~5 minutes long and include either slides or a brief demonstration.
- Describe the customer/user perspective. What problem are you trying to solve and how does the user interact with the system.
- Describe how you profit from this - your revenue model(s).
- Entrepreneur presentations will not be video or audio taped.
Panel Analysis:
- Investors perspective on your current business model. What benchmarks investors have in mind when making investment decisions on businesses with similar revenue models.
- Examples of successful and failed startups with similar revenue models for comparison.
- Creative alternative revenue models that may be worth consideration. The costs and benefits of various alternatives - cost/time to implement, volume of users required, length of sales cycle, etc.

Panelist and Moderator Bios:
Jay Levy
Jay is a founding Principal of Zelkova Ventures, an early stage venture capital
firm. Zelkova focuses on early stage technology and media companies. Prior to
launching Jay Levy he started and was involved with several startups in industries
ranging from financial services, consumer internet and security. Jay has also
spent several years working in large industry for Morgan Stanley and MasterCard. In 2007 Jay was one
of the top 5 Entrepreneurs to Watch in NYC from Crain's along with being a recipients
of the 40 under 40 award from Westchester.
Martin Breslin
Martin is Managing Partner at The Hatchery and founder of Fiscvl Corp.,
a leading finance, accounting and operational consulting firm – 100%
focused on NY tech startup and growth companies. Prior to Fiscvl,
Martin was an owner and CFO of FivePoints Compliance, which was was
sold to mindSHIFT Technologies in 2007. Martin has held numerous CFO
and related positions for both financial service firms and tech
startups, including: Gleacher NatWest (now Gleacher RBS) and the
Hennessee Group
David Schnurman
David is President of Lawline.com, a leading provider of Online Continuing Legal Education and founder and CEO of TrueNYC.com,
an online video network for entrepreneurs. David is very active in the
entrepreneur community, including as a committee member for the New
York Business Xpo and the NYU Entrepreneurship Conference and he is an
active member of Entrepreneur Organization. David is also a licensed
attorney in New York State.
Steven Adler
Steven is the CEO of Financial Summit Ventures Inc. a mentoring &
development firm for growing technology companies. Steven has been
involved with technology companies for over 25 years. Having been the
CEO and CFO of several firms and instrumental with multiple venture
capital raises in the technology field, Steven works with a portfolio
of high potential, seed and early stage companies. Prior positions
include: CFO at EdgeTrade, Inc., CEO of RevMax International, Inc. and Senior Manager at Arthur Andersen & Co.
Maisha Walker
Maisha is an award-winning 12-year Internet industry veteran and the President of message medium
a New York marketing firm that specializes in helping small businesses
grow through both traditional and Internet marketing. Maisha regularly
teaches free, intensive Web Site and Internet Marketing classes for
