“Anderson takes command of the stage and does not let go.”…………….....San Leandro Times, CA

This is a two-hour show with an intermission. Showtimes are at 2:00 pm and 8:00 pm.

Description

Darrow never lost a Death Penalty case and his record of saving 102 men from execution is an historical fact. With a national debate focused on the preservation of civil liberties amid concerns for the public safety from terrorism, this powerful and absorbing portrayal of a remarkable American is uniquely appropriate to our current national state of mind.

Darrow: "Conspiracy laws, from the days of tyranny in England, down to today, when those in power use it as a club, has been the favorite weapon of every tyrant. It is an effort to punish the crime of thought. If there are still any citizens interested in protecting human liberty, let them study the conspiracy laws of the United States, which have grown until today no ones liberty is safe!” (1894)

In this play, Darrow recounts the greatest trials of his career, including the 80th Anniversary of the Scopes “Monkey” Trial, while providing personal insights into his character and philosophies through often humorous and moving anecdotes and trial excerpts.
