Transformational Economic Diplomacy: A presentation by Richard Boly

A key component of the mission of BAIA (Business Association Italy America) is to provide not only a business networking forum in the Bay Area, but a point of contact and sharing of ideas between entrepreneurs in Italy and here. BAIA wraps up 2008 with a reflection on how entrepreneurial ecosystems can be nurtured through initiatives which spur entrepreneurship and serve as catalysts for economic dynamism.

In March 2006, U.S. Ambassador to Italy, Ronald P. Spogli, launched the Partnership for Growth before a meeting of Confidustria's national leadership.  The Partnership for Growth was an early supporter of BAIA.  Through hundreds of activities, the Partnership for Growth has sought to spur economic dynamism, specifically to:

1) Move research to market;
2) Grow risk capital markets;
3) Spur innovation by strengthening the intellectual property rights (IPR) regime; and
4) Create and promote Italian entrepreneurial role models.

Richard Boly is a fellow at the Hoover Institute in Stanford. Mr. Boly helped design and implement the Partnership for Growth and would like to see such model replicated around the world.  Mr. Boly will provide some details of the Partnership for Growth's success and briefly discuss his efforts to promote the model more widely.
