Training in Mentoring and Coaching Skills for working with young people

This course would suit those who..

  • Advise, coach or mentor young people to achieve their potential.
  • Want to understand the potential and impact of professional coaching skills.
  • Want to add coaching techniques and tools to your skill set

Coaching tools can help you achieve the following :

  • Understand your client’s interests and build a better rapport
  • Help them to take responsibility for their own goals and actions
  • Uncover real thoughts and feelings using skilled questioning techniques
  • Create structured conversations with clients that achieve real outcomes.
  • Understand how to give guidance rather than advice to empower your client.

The three day course will teach you coaching techniques and tools. It will incorporate practical hands on learning and the small group structure will enable sharing between the participants.

This course is suitable for youth workers, teachers, sport coaches, social workers, mentors, drug counsellors, supported housing workers, employment advisers or careers advisers who work with young people.

The three day workshop can be upgraded to an ILM level 2 award Qualification in Mentoring for Young Learners. This then also includes six one to one sessions with a coach to help you reflect on how to apply your knowledge effectively. The content will vary depending on the coaching experience of those within the session and, subject to completion of assessments, will lead to a recognised qualification.

The course is being delivered by ICF accredited coach Rosalyn Clare.

Striding Out has delivered coaching and mentoring training and qualifications to organisations including the Birmingham Youth Service, Changemakers, Catch 22, and London Youth.
