The New York City chapter of the Institute for International Film Financing (IIFF) continues its popular monthly gatherings at the junction of film & finance with a special Film Financing Townhall at the renowned School of Visual Arts (SVA). Their facilities are conveniently located near the corner of 23rd Street & 3rd Avenue.
This grassroots community get-together is designed to foster & inform productive relationships between attendees. It provides unbiased insight & education about the business of film and film financing in particular. This month's Film Financing Townhall in New York is hosted by the esteemed School of Visual Arts (SVA), one of the nation's largest independent, regionally accredited art and film schools. Located in the heart of New York City, SVA is an established leader and innovator in the education of artists, offering graduate, undergraduate and continuing-education classes.
From its inception in 1947 as a trade school with three instructors and 35 students, SVA has grown into a dynamic, multidisciplinary institution with a faculty of more than 800 and a student body of almost 3,500. The School distinguishes itself by its extensive facilities, state-of-the-art equipment, unique program philosophies, and the size, breadth and professional standing of its faculty.

Speaker Bios
Elliott Kanbar has been involved in film distribution and exhibition since 1972. Manhatan's largest local news magazine, New York Resident, listed Kanbar as one of the "Top 100 New Yorkers of the Year," primarily for his involvement in running the Quad Cinema, one of the most prestigious and successful art houses in the city. As the President of the Quad, Kanbar has specialized throughout the years in showing the best independent, foreign and documentary films. He has also gained a well-deserved reputation in the industry for helping young filmmakers without a distributor get started in New York. In March 2010, Kanbar launched a new division called the Quad Cinema 4-Wall Select program, designed to offer the fast-growing number of filmmakers without a distributor, or who have chosen to self-release, the exciting opportunity to theatrically launch their films in the vital New York market. Filmmakers have access to a full package, which includes all aspects of the marketing and PR needed to make their films successful. »
Ethan Bordman is an entertainment attorney and the founder of law firm Ethan Y. Bordman, PLLC. He represents authors, screenwriters, producers, directors and actors, guiding them through the legal and business matters they face in bringing their dreams to the screen. He has also assisted investors and filmmakers in financing motion pictures. Bordman earned a law degree from the University of Detroit School of Law, a Master's degree in Entertainment Law from the University of Westminster in London (UK) and a Master's degree in International Sports Law from Anglia University in Cambridge (UK). Moreover, he holds an MBA from the Prentis School of Business at Wayne State University. Before starting his law practice, he worked with the American Federation of TV and Radio Artists (AFTRA), a national performers' union. While at AFTRA, Bordman coordinated TV and radio projects for networks such as ABC, CBS, FOX, CTV (Canadian TV), TNT and Lifetime Networks. He is the former Chair of the Arts, Entertainment and Sports Law section of the Michigan State Bar and is currently a member of the Entertainment, Arts and Sports Law committee of the New York State Bar. He practices entertainment law in New York, Michigan and Illinois. »

Jermanok wrote and produced the highly acclaimed romantic comedy "Passionada," which was released by Columbia TriStar in over 150 countries. He recently won the Grand Jury Prize at the Seattle International Film Festival for his film "Em," a compelling romantic drama about loss and love. The film went on to win the Criterion Collection's International Inspiration Award, the International Filmguide Award and the Best Producer Award at the recent Brooklyn International Film Festival. Jermanok recently directed "Agganis," a feature documentary about Greek-American Harry Agganis, the legendary New England athlete of years past, narrated by Olympia Dukakis. »
Kenneth Blaine has been with Tax Credits, LLC since 2007. As an Account Executive with the firm, he is well-versed in placing various transferable credits across the nation. He has built a large base of corporate and individual buyers, while consistently assisting studios, independents, commercial producers and others generating credits that require immediate monetization. Moreover, Blaine has evaluated legislation and assisted several states with designing appropriate incentive programs, as well as improving existing programs with critical issues. In addition to his business career, he is a part-time classically trained pianist, having graduated cum laude with a BA in music performance from Beloit College. Blaine also has several years of experience in technology and business, having worked for the phosphate company Rhodia and as a district computer technician for the South Brunswick Board of Education in New Jersey. »

Kaiser Wahab is a seasoned business, intellectual property, technology and entertainment lawyer with the Manhattan firm of Wahab & Medenica LLC, whose attorneys are hands-on business people and counselors. A graduate of Cornell University and Columbia Law School, he routinely assists film producers and entrepreneurs in crafting investment structures. He is also an Adjunct Professor at Columbia University School of the Arts, instructing students in venture financing and private offerings of securities for feature film vehicles. Kaiser's client list has included Das Films ("Veronika Decides to Die" with Sarah Michelle Gellar), Yash Raj Films, Anywhere Road Entertainment (as Executive Vice President), Andrew Paquin and his movie "Open House" featuring Oscar winner Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer, Faulkner Award winning author Phillip Jennings, and others. Kaiser has broad experience, having worked on films that run the gamut from Bollywood productions such as "Ta Ra Rum Pum" with Rani Mukerji and Saif Ali Khan, to indie comedies such as "The Oh in Ohio" starring Parker Posey, Paul Rudd and Danny DeVito. With Anywhere Road, he was intimately involved in the clearance, financing and distribution of all the company's films, including the Sundance Grand Jury Prize nominated documentary "A Very British Gangster" and "Black Irish" (Michael Angarano, Brendan Gleeson) by Brad Gann, writer of "Invincible." He also developed the financing and business model for Imagine Fashion's video collective, which features top fashion photography and modeling names. Beginning his career with Pryor Cashman LLP, Kaiser later joined Day Pitney LLP, where he handled licensing, trademark/copyright and contractual issues for companies like Microsoft and UTC. In addition to that, he clerked at the US Court of International Trade. Kaiser is published in the Cardozo Arts & Entertainment Journal, and he has lectured and presented at Harvard Law School, Columbia University and the School of Visual Arts on film financing, copyright and digital media. He has also served as Chair of the Corporations Law Committee at the New York County Lawyers Association. He sits on the Advisory Board for Heart Gallery NYC, a nonprofit that places foster children with families. »
