Event Details

PennConnects is a long-range, land use and urban design Campus Development Plan created by Sasaki Associates and the University of Pennsylvania. The PennConnects plan was supported by a Multi-Modal Campus Circulation Study, led by  Orth Rodgers and Associates. One of the primary recommendations of the study is, “improving physical connections for pedestrians, automobiles, and bicycles.”  As the campus grows and evolves, improving connectivity and access for employees, students, and visitors becomes even more critical to its success.  This PDI Event will address the multi-modal component of PennConnects through a presentation and walking tour of planned and implemented improvements.

The presentation and tour will be led by Mark Kocent, AIA, AICP. Mr. Kocent will address campus goals such as shifting 15% of single-occupant commuter trips from automobiles to alternative modes, providing for the safety of all modes as well as the challenges of engaging numerous stakeholders. The Plan recommends new pedestrian and traffic calming facilities, bicycle lanes and parking, improved transit service and facilities, and more.

The 45-minute presentation will begin at 4pm, followed by a 45-minute walking tour.  After the tour, participants are invited to gather for happy hour (location TBD) for further conversation.
