Event Details

Don Mumford
Regional Vice President, Radio & TV Operations – Ontario
Bell Media

Don Mumford has worked in most every facet of the television broadcast industry for the past thirty years, including Sales and Marketing, Production, Programming and General Management.  His career has taken him to Lethbridge, Alberta, Ottawa, Windsor and London.  Radio was first added to his portfolio in 2009.

Effective January 2012 Bell Media created four new senior positions to oversee Canada’s largest system of broadcast operations, including the CTV and CTV Two television networks, and 33 radio stations.  Reporting directly to the President of Radio and Local TV, Mr. Mumford is responsible for thirteen radio stations in Windsor, Kitchener, Lindsay, Peterborough, Brockville and Kingston, and four television properties in London, Kitchener, Windsor and Barrie/Toronto.

“The future of media is providing consumers with the content they want, when they want, and on their platform of choice – whether that be traditional television and radio, or on computers and handheld devices such as smart-phones and tablets,” outlines Mumford.  His acute understanding of the industry and extensive knowledge of media consumption will be an invaluable resource as Bell Media transitions into a bright new digital world.

Notable achievements throughout Don Mumford’s career include the creation of Southwestern Ontario’s premiere television morning show in 2000, New Day, later renamed /A\ Morning, which ran for nine years.  He was also a pioneer in merging new and traditional media with the creation of “The School Bus Monitor” – a real time internet tracking system that served five provinces from Ontario to BC.  In 2011, Don oversaw the transition from analogue to High Definition TV broadcasts, a significant industry milestone.  Converting production equipment to HD is phase two.

More significant is the record audiences now tuning into CTV London’s Evening News, consistently exceeding 120,000 viewers.  Recent viewership levels are the highest since the station launched in 1953, especially noteworthy in light of ever growing news options.

Especially important is the extensive support provided to local charities.  Under his guidance, Bell Media has been a leader in the promotion of cultural diversity and health related solutions.  “Local television and radio works because of our deep roots in the community.  Stations may provide infrastructure, but the passion for each project we support results from our compassionate and committed workforce.”

Originally from BC, Don moved to London, Ontario to attend Fanshawe College, graduating with top honours from the Television Broadcasting program in 1979.  He currently sits on two boards:

  • Sunfest ~ World Music Festival listed in the prestigious Top 100 Festival in North America
  • SWEA~Southwest Economic Alliance

Don is married, with three children and a grandson.
