Event Details
This year's event, Tuesday, February 28, 2006, seeks to fulfill Mattie's dreams in conjunction with the Gregory Mark Taubin Memorial Fund. Gregory Mark Taubin was a young boy of eleven years when he succombed to Reyes Syndrome after spending several weeks in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Children's Hospital. The Gregory Mark Taubin Fund strives to build new, individual, state-of-the-art PICU rooms where patients and their families can be together during very difficult times, something Mattie also greatly desired.
Honored speakers will include Melissa and Kevin Buckles of Woodbridge, Virginia, whose cojoined daughters, Erin and Jade, were separated and cared for by the doctors and nurses at Children's Hospital when they were only four months old. Come listen to the Buckles amazing story.

The Heartsongs Luncheon Fund was established as a tribute to Mattie J.T. Stepanek, a child poet, peacemaker, and inspiration to us all. Mattie was a long-time patient of Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. before he lost his battle with a rare form of muscular dystrophy in June 2004. Monies raised by Heartsongs benefit Children's Hospital.
