Sunset Dinner Cruise with Sarasota’s Finest Dinner Boat
The Marina Jack Dinner Boat starts boarding at 4:30pm and departs at 5:00pm (since it gets dark sooner in the winter months) the cruise will be 2 to 2 1/2 hours with dinner.
Sarasota weather in January is usually very mild. The boat departs at sunset with cocktails, and cruises around the harbor for 2 hours during dinner. There is a fixed price of $54.95 that includes dinner, cruise and gratuity. The only thing not covered is alcohol. Each person can pay cash or by credit card at the end of the cruise for drinks. Tips on alcohol would be extra.

The History of Innovation at the National Library of Medicine
Dr. Martin Cummings, MD
Dr. Cummings' presentation will address the beginnings of how we gather and disseminate accurate medical information in the modern world.
Medical Educator, physician, scientific administrator, and Medical Librarian, Dr. Cummings made significant contributions in the field of technology while guiding the National Library of Medicine as it's Director from 1964 to 1984. As Chairman & Professor of the Department of Microbiology at the Univ of Oklahoma School of Medicine, professor at George Washington School of Medicine, Director of the CDC in Atlanta, and instructor of Medicine at Emory School of Medicine, Dr Cummings was the visionary who brought disparate medical information from hospitals and physicians nationwide to a central repository for efficient and cost effective distribution. At 86 he still has time for open-water fishing every Wednesday in Sarasota Bay, lecturing, and heading a Sarasota "low-vision" clinic for patients suffering from Macular Degeneration.

Teresa Michael, RHIT is a Lead Clinical Systems Analyst at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. Teresa’s background is in Health Information Management and was Director of HIM for Mercy Hospitals Anderson and Clermont in Cincinnati, Ohio. Prior to coming to SMH more than 3 years ago, she worked for Streamline Health for 9 years where she held positions in Sales and Marketing, Implementation, and Product Management.

Mike serves as Chief Information Officer for Lee Memorial Health System (LMHS), an integrated healthcare system including 5 acute care hospitals, a Children's Hospital, a Rehab Hospital, nursing home, home health services, outpatient services and multiple multispecialty physician group practices. As Chief Information Officer, Mr. Smith is charged with overall leadership of the System's efforts to utilize information systems, technologies and methods for the achievement of Lee Memorial's mission. He has operational responsibility for Information Systems/Information Technology, Tele-communications, Health Information Management (Medical Records), and Biomedical Engineering. Mike joined LMHS in 1997, following 10 years in various Information technology leadership capacities at Baylor Healthcare System in Dallas, TX. Prior to that he served as the Vice President of Operations for NADACOM, a healthcare information systems company also in Dallas, where he was responsible for software and hardware development and implementation. In total, Mr. Smith has more than 25 years experience in the healthcare information systems business.

The Hospice of FloridaWe will learn how the hospice has been a pioneer in developing mobile and ubiquitous technologies to ensure effective communication with patients and their families and among care team members.
Gay Madden, BSRN, graduate of The University of Oklahoma, is a 37 year nursing veteran with 10 years in acute care, 20 years in home based health care and 7 years in information technology. She has served various roles in the home care and hospice arena from Clinical Manager to Executive Director to VP of Management Information Systems. Gay has extensive expertise in health care regulations (Medicare, Medicaid), accreditation standards (JACHO), professional standards, operational imperatives, business process redesign, and human resource challenges. Her global view of the health care system evolving from clinical focus, patient advocacy, information systems, operational knowledge and business development creates the tool set for her effectiveness in leading the innovative technology initiatives of The Hospice of the Florida Suncoast. Gay’s ability to help others “connect the dots” between information systems, patient care, clinical management and business operations has proved to be a valuable asset in moving agencies through successful implementation and utilization of information systems.

Meeting location: At Sarasota Memorial Hospital, you should park in the 7 story garage. Exit the garage by making a "Left" away from the main entrance of the hospital. Proceed to street, and cross the street, going through the main entrance to Waldemere at 1901. Take the elevators to the second floor to the Papaya Room.

We are trying to secure a minimum of 30 seats (which we are holding at this time), so we can then be seated together. We can certainly book more than 30. For the dinner cruise, we need early commitments to hold the seats. If you wish to take the dinner cruise, please register today.
Should unforeseen circumstances keep someone from attending the dinner and the meeting after registering, both dinner reservations and meeting registrations will be refunded if we have an email cancellation received by noon EST January 21, 2009.
