ORTON-GILLINGHAM MULTISENSORY TRAINING FOR TEACHERS

CERTIFIED LEVEL, PART I

Instructor: Joanie Gerken, Fellow/AOGPE, The Fletcher School

Dates: COURSEWORK: Monday-Friday, July 9-13, 2012, 8:00am - 4:00pm daily (with one hour lunch break);

SUPERVISED TEACHING: July 16-27, 2012, 8:00am - 12:00pm daily

Strategies: Appropriate for students in grades K-12


Prerequisites:

1) Associate Membership in the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators or

2) Bachelor's Degree and the O-G Multisensory Training for Teachers - Associate Level


This seminar follows the Certified curriculum guidelines established by the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators.  Certified membership in the Academy requires 100 hours of coursework and 200 hours of supervised teaching beyond the Associate level of training.  Certified Level, Part I is an opportunity to fulfill a portion of this training.

This seminar includes the following topics:

  • Understanding the learner with dyslexia
  • Current research related to dyslexia and learning disabilities
  • Language acquisition, motor development, and the nature of reading
  • The history and structure of the English language
  • Handwriting, self-monitoring, study and self-advocacy skills
  • Assessment, profile development, diagnostic and prescriptive teaching, case management, and communication with other professionals
  • Code of ethics


Materials:  Each participant will receive The Gillingham Manual and Solving Language Difficulties

Cost:  $1,500 (includes materials)

Credit: 7.5 CEUs
