EL wire butterfly

Electroluminescence (EL) is an optical and electrical phenomenon in which a material emits light  when an electrical current is passed through it or when exposed to a strong electrical field. EL materials have been used in a variety of applications, from vehicle instrument panels and safety/emergency lighting to sculptures, decoration and garments.

In this class you'll learn about the properties and applications of the different types of EL materials and inverters, how to pick the right ones for your project and how to solder, shape and apply them. Everyone will get 3 ft of angel hair EL wire, 1 battery-powered inverter, 1 ft of copper tape and 2xAA batteries.

No prior knowledge of soldering or electronics required.

This class is taught by NYC Resistor member Catarina Mota.
