Improvements include new service to Long Beach Airport and El Dorado Nature Center

LONG BEACH, CALIF. (August 16, 2011) – Following extensive outreach to city officials and approval from the Long Beach Transit Board of Directors, a number of service changes will take effect starting Sunday, August 28. These changes benefit the residents and visitors of Long Beach with more routes to the Long Beach Airport, increased service to California State University, Long Beach and a new route to the El Dorado Park and Nature Center.

Route 104 is a new route that will serve the El Dorado Park and Nature Center, operating on Spring between Studebaker and Norwalk. It will also bring new service to the Long Beach Airport, creating a direct connection from the airport to Metro’s Blue Line Willow Station.

Route 102 will now serve the Long Beach Airport, connecting directly to Metro’s Blue Line Willow Station.

Route 101 will operate from Santa Fe and 25th to Civic Center and Joliet in Hawaiian Gardens via Carson Street direct for better travel across town. Route 101 service to Lakewood Mall and Centralia will be eliminated; however, routes 93, 103, 111, 112 and 191 still serve the mall. Route 103 will still serve the Lakewood High School area along with routes 91, 92, 93, 112 and 172.

Route 103 will now run day and night and have peak period trips that extend to Lakewood High School when classes are in session.

Passports A and D will have increased service to CSULB and Catalina Landing.

Passports B and C will have decreased service during non-peak periods. Passport C will operate every

12 minutes during the mid-morning on weekdays and every 8 minutes during the day on the weekends. Early morning service on both routes will operate every 30 instead of 20 minutes before 6 AM on weekdays and 7 AM on weekends.

Route 181 will have a change in night service on Magnolia from the First Street Transit Gallery to Anaheim Street. Trips will leave from the Transit Gallery at :05 after the hour and depart the Wardlow Station at :37 after the hour.

The following routes will have minor schedule or route changes: 61 / 71 / 72 / 81 / 91 / 92 / 93 / 94 / 96 / 111 / 112 / 171 / 191 / 192.

Other important Long Beach Transit dates: The popular U-PASS program will resume service starting August 22 for current CSULB students, faculty and staff. Water Taxi service on the AquaLink, AquaLink Express and AquaBus will continue through September 11.
