Event Details

This event is comprised of 2 audio conferences of the Association of Government Accountants (Des Moines Chapter).  The morning session is pre-recorded, the afternoon session is live.  Lunch is available between sessions at 12:30 p.m.

The morning pre-recorded session is on the topic "Subrecipient or Vendor?--Sorting Out the Subaward of Federal Grant Funds Now."  This audio was originally offered on March 21, 2011by Thompson Interactive. Presentation materials can be found at http://www.thompsoninteractive.com/site/handouts.jsp?handoutid=T03211102.  The session will begin at 10:30 a.m.

The afternoon audio conference will begin at 1:00 p.m. with the topic, "SSAE 16 Reporting on Controls - Revised SAS 70 Report and Service Organization Control Reports".

A new standard, Statement of Standards for Attestation Engagements No. 16, Reporting on Controls at a Service Organization, has replaced SAS 70 effective for periods ended after June 15, 2011. Many governments use a service organization to perform certain functions as a way to meet constituent needs and reduce or streamline operating costs, such as for electronic toll collection systems, lottery gaming operations, Medicaid claims processing and others. When governments use such organizations, they adopt that organization’s risks as their own. Government management and their auditors are responsible for considering the effectiveness of those service providers' internal controls to mitigate their risks.

To share their knowledge and expertise in auditing and government operations is Rick Hannmann, CGFM, CPA, CISA, Partner, IT Advisory Services at KPMG, LLC, and Dean Martin, audit liaison officer, Office of the Secretary, National Business Center, U.S. Department of the Interior. The National Business Center is Interior's shared service provider to federal agencies. Martin will speak on lessons learned and experiences gained from shifting to the new Service Organization Control SSAE 16 Attestation Standard from SAS 70.

Two CPE are offered for each of the audio conferences (4 CPE total for the event).
