SharePoint User Workshop for the
Life Sciences Industry

March 8-9, 2012 | Marriott Hotel & Conference Center | Princeton, NJ

The widespread deployment of SharePoint across the life sciences industry has generated increased demand for standards and best practices to increase efficiency and maintain sustainable adoption. To help the industry better understand how SharePoint can be effectively used in multiple life science environments, PHARMICA Consulting is proud to host its 6th SharePoint User Workshop for the Life Sciences Industry.  We have arrived at a new paradigm for conducting the next workshop, and through the use of several user based interviews, we are confident that the new format will prove to be a lasting enhancement.

9:15       SharePoint as a Global Project Management and Centralized Reporting Portal
Study and project managers were spending too much time manually assembling status reports and the resulting data lacked consistency, which led senior management to lose confidence in the data.  SharePoint was used to provide study and project managers with better tools for managing projects and automate the reporting process.   Web forms and work flows were used to collect information from CROs and route data for approval by Study Managers before being published for senior management.  All project and study data was integrated with Microsoft Project Server data to generate a set of standard reports in a centralized Global Project Management Reporting Portal.  This presentation will discuss some of the business challenges that were overcome and how SharePoint is being effectively used to manage Daiichi Sankyo’s entire R&D pipeline from the earliest planning stages through product launch.
Michael Connolley, Associate Director Global Project Management

10:00     The Scrapes of Wrath:  One company's tale of a SharePoint 2010 migration
At the end of 2011, Eli Lilly and Co. migrated from SharePoint 2007 to 2010.  The migration involved tens of thousands of sites and occurred across all regions globally.  This presentation will describe:
  • How the migration occurred
  • What went well during the migration
  • Notable issues that were discovered during the migration
  • Techniques deployed to prepare end users for the migration
  • Overall assessment of how end users reacted to the change.

10:45     Networking & Refreshment Break

11:15     Making SharePoint Chemically Aware
The use of SharePoint collaboration software for content management has become a critical part of today's drug discovery process.  SharePoint 2010 software has laid a foundation which enables researchers to collaborate and search on various content.  The amount of data generated during a transition of a single compound from preclinical discovery to commercialization can easily reach terabytes, thus there is high demand for a chemically aware search algorithm that supplements SharePoint to enable researchers to query more effectively.  A Chemically Aware system supplementing SharePoint is a step towards making the drug discovery process more efficient and to search in a more intuitive way.  It also significantly helps researchers by allowing them to tag documents with molecular entities and integrating them with image recognition software to find information contained in .pdf documents.

Targacept, Inc.

12:00     Lunch & Networking

1:30       Collaboration Management: Development of an internal business process to foster
growth strategies in the pharma & life sciences industry
In an emerging market, company portfolios grow and so do the responsibility of managing key collaborations critical to the business.  In order to successfully manage and streamline complex key relationships, a customized process was introduced to fit the unique needs of each KOL relationship and support complex aspects of the End-to-End contracting process.  SharePoint has been integrated as the ‘in-house infrastructure’ to enable effective management of information capture and communication, including alignment with Health Care Compliance.  Over time, the evolution of an internal community has also proven to demonstrate the power of ‘collective ownership’ as a mechanism to support issue resolution & ensure good-standing relationships.  This presentation will highlight the key functionalities of Collaboration Management as a business process under an Operational Excellence strategy.
Tayseer Ghazzouli, Research Manager, Strategy & Business Planning
Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical R&D
