Cabaret of Kurt Weill from Berlin to Broadway

Come to Arts Garage for one night only, magical journey into the cabaret world of the 1920, 1930, and 1940s as you travel with one of the greatest composers of the 20th century through Berlin, Paris, Broadway and Hollywood.

The concert features highlights of the oeuvre of Kurt Weill from the early Weimar compositions (Mack the Knife, Alabama, Surabaya Johnny, Berlin im Licht), his years in Paris (Je ne t'aime pas, Youkali), and ends with his more famous songs from Broadway and Hollywood (September Song, It Never Was You, Speak Low, Lonely House, Wouldn't You Like to Be On Broadway) in the 1940s. The evening is knitted together with continuity from excerpts of love letters between Weill and his wife, Lotte Lenya.

Edwin Cahil ~ As a member of the original cast of the most recent Kurt Weill musical on Broadway, LOVEMUSIK, directed by Harold Prince, Cahil will be making use of rare arrangements of his pieces and will interpret these works at the piano as the music director and vocalist. Aside from my Weill experience, he recently appeared in the Broadway Revival of Sondheim's SWEENEY TODD and won a Kevin Kline Award for performance of Cosme McMoon in SOUVENIR. The concert will also feature the international operatic soprano, Julia Kogan, who appeared this season as the Queen of the Night in Canada, concerts at Carnegie Hall, Paris, and London.
