FREE EDUCATIONAL SYMPOSIUM

The event is designed to empower and educate attendees by informing them about age-related macular degeneration (AMD), including the progression of the disease and the risks of vision loss as a result. The symposium will also cover precautionary methods that may delay the onset of AMD and reduce retinal damage.
There will be a FREE screening before the symposium. This screening will determine if your eyes have any form of early macular degeneration. Event attendees will learn the latest treatment advances evolving in the macular field, including the revolutionary Macula Risk® test, a new genetic test predicting one's likelihood of developing wet AMD the most serious form of the disease. In addition to establishing an individual’s genetic predisposition to macular degeneration, the test is also useful in formulating a customized treatment plan for those diagnosed with AMD.
This test is available through your doctor’s office and is being reimbursed by all large insurance providers including Medicare.
Exhibitors and featured event speakers will offer participants many opportunities to learn about the latest advances in macular degeneration research, precautionary methods, medications, treatments, and low vision therapies, vitamins and occupational therapy.
Dr. Gary Morgan is the program chair from Eye Tech Eye Associates. His practice offers a heavy emphasis on medical eye care since inception, Dr. Morgan’s goal has always been to provide cutting edge technology for the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases, as well as for screening procedures during routine well vision exams.
Special guest speaker will be Michael Tolentino, MD from the Center for Retina and Macular Disease, in Winter Haven, FL. Dr. Tolentino is Scientific Co- Founder and medical director for the Macular Degeneration Association based in Sarasota, FL. Dr. Tolentino is a pioneer in several retina treatments for both wet and dry macular degeneration.
Other featured speakers include John Chrisagis, OD from Tempe Eyecare Associates and Kevin Huff, OD from ViewFinder Low Vision Resource Center.
MDA’s educational symposium in Glendale, AZ will provide attendees with a unique opportunity to interact with nationally known macular expert, local medical professionals, fellow patients and caregivers in an open forum.

Macular Degeneration Association
The Macular Degeneration Association is a nonprofit health organization providing macular research, information and advocacy. MDA is an IRS recognized 501(c)3 organization and contributions are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.
The mission of the organization is to cure macular degeneration and to improve the lives of all people affected by the disease.
To fulfill this mission, the MDA will fund research, publish scientific findings, provide funding for education, information and other services to people with macular degeneration, their families, healthcare professionals and the public. The foundation advocates for the increase in funding for scientific research and for the rights of people with macular degeneration.
The money raised by the foundation funds research,education, information programs and advocacy and awareness efforts that will support the over 9.1 million people with macular degeneration in communities across America.
