ASTD-Puget Sound November Chapter Meeting
Onboarding:
Three Perspectives
Our November Chapter meeting provides an opportunity to hear three Learning & Development professionals share their views and experiences onboarding employees.
What is onboarding? Chances are your definition or experience of onboarding isn’t exactly the same as others. Wikipedia defines onboarding in two sentences. “Onboarding is the process of a new employee or a newly-promoted leader or associate into an organization or role. Onboarding begins when the candidate accepts the position; it includes orientation, and extends through about month six, and sometimes up to one year, depending on the organization.”
During this session, you will learn about:
- -New Employee Orientation verses an Onboarding experience
- Onboarding to drive culture change
- Considerations for the emotional and intellectual needs of new employees
- How three local organizations view and implement onboarding
After brief panel presentations, the meeting will be an open forum for your questions, views and experiences of onboarding.

The purpose of the Chapter's Applied Research Council's is to advance the Workplace Learning and Performance (WLP) profession by providing high-quality learning programs for Chapter members on how to conduct effective WLP-related research. Applied research in the WLP field includes both "front-end" research, such as needs assessment and organizational diagnosis, and evaluation research of learning program outcomes. The front-end applied research leads to better learning and performance improvement outcomes, and the documentation and reporting of outcomes improves the credibility and visibility of the profession as well as promoting continuous learning.
In 2009 the focus will be on a series of learning programs to build member skills in evaluation research, with a particular emphasis on calculating Return-on-Investment (ROI).
The 2009 ARC Meetings usually start with registration at 7:30 AM, and the programs run from 7:45 AM to 8:45 AM. Dates & Locations are TBD.
