Event Details

This event is part of the Cambridge Festival of Ideas 2011 organised by University of Cambridge. Anglia Ruskin sponsors the festival and have organised 20 events which takes place between 19 and 30 October 2011.

This evening's talk will be given by Professor Lissa Paul, with Professor Philip Nel contributing by video link, to mark the UK publication of their 'Keywords for Children's Literature'. Inspired by Raymond Williams' ground-breaking Keywords, Keywords for Children's Literature examines in 49 essays by distinguished scholars the vocabulary of children's literature, and this evening's talk will reflect on some of the essential terms and concepts central to the study of children's literature.

Professor Lissa Paul is a leading critic of children's literature, and was one of the editors of the Norton Anthology of Children's Literature.  Her publications include Reading Otherwise and The Children's Book Business. She teaches at Brock University, Ontario. Professor Philip Nel is Director of the Programme in Children's Literature at Kansas State University.  Professor Nel's publications include 'Tales for Little Rebels: Collection of Radical Children’s Literature' (co-edited with Julia Mickenberg), 'The Annotated Cat: Under the Hats of Seuss and His Cats',  'Dr Seuss: American Icon',and 'J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter Novels: A Reader’s Guide'.
