ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

This course presents self-care strategies for parents and professionals supporting children in out-of-home care settings. Participants will identify and practice specific primary and secondary interventions to address secondary trauma within themselves, family and/or workplace. A focus will be on the value and importance of getting and staying connected with others, identifying personal and professional passions, and evaluating progress toward specific goals. Holistic approaches to stress management will be emphasized with a focus on application within the participant’s current living or work situation.

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

(a) Integrate knowledge of self-care values into current living and/or work situation

(b) Identify self-care strategies that would improve the ability to provide support to children and youth

(c) Apply holistic approaches to stress management within an out-of-home care setting

 

This workshop will be from 9a-4p with an one hour lunch (lunch will be on your own) 

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Greg Manning, Ph.D. holds a doctorate in clinical psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology. He is a faculty trainer for the Public Child Welfare Training Academy in southern California and a faculty member at the University of Phoenix in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences. He consults and trains professionals of multiple specialties and lay persons regarding their work with children and families both in the community and within the foster care system.


CONTINUING EDUCATION:

Group Home Administrators: This course is approved by the California Department of Social Services for 4 hours of continuing education units for administrator recertification (Vendor GH 2000166-730-2; Course Number: 166-0404-23518)

MFTs and LCSWs: This course meets the qualifications for 6 hours of continuing education credit for Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (MFTs), Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSWs), Licensed Education Psychologists (LEPs), and Licensed Professional Clinical Counselors (LPCCs) as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (Casa Pacifica Centers for Children and Families; Provider 2522).

Registered Nurses: Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing (CEP 15108) for 6 contact hours.

CAADE: Provider approved by the California Association for Alcohol and Drug Educators, Provider #; CP10 914 C 1113 for 6 contact hours.

CYC-P: This course meets the qualifications for 6 hours of continuing education credit for Child and Youth Care Professionals (CYC-P) as required by the Child and Youth Care Certification Board. Content domain: Professionalism
