Who are we?

Plastic is an essential part of our modern world - but when used carelessly or discarded improperly; it can negatively affect our environment. From our waters to our food chain, plastic is a growing threat to the health of our planet and ourselves. GreenPlate was created in 2008 to bring awareness combined with practical, local solutions to this global problem by targeting single-use plastics.

What do we do?

GreenPlate empowers individuals, businesses and restaurants to take simple steps toward reducing their environmental impact. Our solutions include providing alternatives to disposable plastics, setting up composting for special events, advocating recycling at public events, and coordinating community “Green Ups.”  We’re eager to share our passion and knowledge to any interested groups or businesses by providing expert public speakers and educational trainers.

Why?

The world was shocked to learn that a giant swirl of mostly plastic waste was found in the Pacific Gyre. Called the Great Garbage Patch, the man-made debris is scattered over an area twice the size of Texas. It tragically illustrates that so-called disposable plastic items don’t disappear. GreenPlate asks whether it’s wasteful and careless to continually rely on single-use plastics such as straws, coffee lids, and plastic bags and wrap.

What can you do?

Sign up, recycle, donate, reuse, volunteer, host and reduce. We have a number of ways to get involved that make the most sense for you. Go to www.greenplate.org to find out!
