Event Details

Chalice Consort begins the 2008-2009 season with a program that features the Bay Area premiere of Pierre de Manchicourt's stunning Requiem. From its first bar, this neglected Franco-Flemish Renaissance masterpiece bathes the listener in strains of unearthly glory.  In our performance, the polyphonic setting of the Requiem Mass Propers will be framed with appropriate liturgical chants. We hope you enjoy this timeless meditative experience and are inspired to follow our progress throughout the coming year. Read more about Manchicourt and the Requiem.

Concert Program:

Motet: Audivi vocem de caelo    Duarte Lobo (1563-1646)
I Heard a Voice from Heaven

Requiem     Pierre de Manchicourt (1510-1564)
Manchicourt's polyphonic setting of the Requiem Mass Propers will framed by the
appropriate monophonic liturgical chants.

Motet: Versa est in luctum citharia mea Alonso Lobo (1555-1617)

Written for the funeral of Philip II of Spain
