WORKSHOP SESSION FOR DESIGNATED CSO STAFF

Background:

iTANGO is a project giving community sector organisations (CSOs) the knowledge and resources to get the most out of their ICT setup and improve their online communications.  This workshop session is designed for key CSO staff, to create opportunity for them to work both with the iTANGO ICT plan resource as well as address some of the areas of challenge that exist for CSOs around ICT.   This 4 hour session will be interactive and engage participants in approaching their ICT development from a strategic viewpoint, identify resources and activities for moving it forward and provide opportunity to become further involved with other organisations in a Community of Practice.

Objectives:

·         Inform key ICT CSO staff of the benefits of using ICT effectively and efficiently

·         Engage participants in a hands on session to use and develop an ICT plan using the iTaNGO Knowledgebase and be able to apply it to their particular context

·         Identify and discuss barriers to effective ICT planning and integration

·         Have knowledgeable IT personnel increase the understanding of participants in the areas of The Cloud and Infrastructure; Social Media and Procurement

·         Develop an environment of sharing and learning within group which transfer to communities of practice beyond the workshop

·         Encourage commitment from participants to creation of and participation in communities of practice

Outline:

1.       INTRODUCTION

Welcome and purpose of workshop

Brief overview of iTaNGO project and resources

2. ICT PLANNING

This practical session will take participants through the steps to effectively aligning ICT planning to strategic plans.  Through exposure to some recent examples from the sector; and application of learning, participants will increase their knowledge of how to write their own ICT plans when back in their organisation. The ICT plan from the iTaNGO Knowledgebase will be used, and organisations will have the opportunity to work in groups with any like organisations that may be within the room.

The hands on session will allow participants time to use the ICT Planning template from the iTaNGO Knowledgebase and apply it to their particular context.  Other components of the Knowledgebase will also be accessed during this session.

3. LEARNING CIRCLES

This session will address major areas of interest that the feedback and information sessions have highlighted to be of high relevance to the participants.  Content experts will work with smaller groups to discuss and address these topics and provide up to date information and strategies.  Participants will be exposed to all subject areas.

4. COMMUNITIES OF PRACTICE

This session will cover the philosophy of Communities of Practice (CoP) and the project requirements and expectations. It will encourage participants to form a CoP to take learning in this knowledge domain further.  It will also cover the use of Web 2.0 tools as collaborative supports. The group will participate in discussion to discover major areas of challenge and concern which will inform the Community of Practice that is created.
