Course Description:
The ability to raise or preserve capital and maintain cash flow is a key element of success for Start-ups and Small Businesses as well as larger organizations. Participants will explore both equity and non-equity funding methods, including the SBA Loan Guaranty Program and cash flow improvement practices.

Carrie Ellinwood, Lender Relations Specialist, U S Small Business Administration
Carrie is currently a Lender Relations Specialist with the Sacramento District Office of the U S Small Business Administration, where she is responsible for working with lenders who participate in the SBA loan program in 21 counties of Northeastern California. She has worked for the U S Small Business Administration since 2007. In Fiscal Year 2009 the Sacramento District Office worked with local lenders to make 506 SBA guaranteed loans for a total of $166,819,700 to help start and grow small businesses. Prior to joining the U S Small Business Administration, Carrie Ellinwood worked for over 15 years in the financial industry, worked for a Fortune 100 Corporation as a Financial Analyst and worked several years as a marketing consultant for small businesses. Carrie Ellinwood graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration and Marketing from National University.
Brett Owens, Co-founder & CEO, Chrometa
Brett Owens is Co-Founder and CEO of Chrometa, a Sacramento based bootstrapped software startup that helps professionals and companies accurately manage and analyze their time for billing and project tracking. Chrometa is 100% self-funded, from a combination of savings, product sales, and Brett's maxed out credit cards. He is a graduate of Cornell University with a degree in Operations Research and Industrial Engineering
Michael Rizzo, Senior Vice President, Commercial and Emerging Business Banking, Five Star Bank
Mike joined Five Star Bank in 2005 and is the driving force behind the bank's focus on Emerging Business Banking. With 20 years of experience in the banking industry, Mike's focus is on venture-funded and angel-funded companies in technology, life sciences and clean energy. He enjoys helping clients realize their envisioned success. Mike earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from California State University, Sacramento. He is also a graduate of the Pacific Coast Banking School at the University of Washington. Mike serves on the board of SARTA, and is involved in several groups in the capital region that support the emerging markets.
