Career Exploration SIG -- 6:00 to 7:30 p.m., every other Monday (no meeting on holiday Mondays)

November 17, 2008

The goal of this biweekly SIG is to provide a supportive venue in which people who are in the midst of or contemplating a career transition can exchange information, ideas, and contacts as well as take advantage of the specialized knowledge of each other and of guest speakers.

The meetings are structured to allow participants to share their goals, progress, and challenges as they provide feedback, ideas, and possible networking contacts to each other. In addition, guest speakers will be invited to present topics of special interest (for example, "Learning and Development Trends in the Puget Sound Area," "Getting Past the Gatekeeper," "Writing Effective Cover Letters," and/or "Managing Your Retirement Account Between Jobs").

Given the highly participatory nature of this monthly SIG, it is limited to ASTD Puget Sound members, and to the first 9 people to preregister. See registration site below.

Facilitator:

    Barbara Alban
Currently owner of Northwest Creative Works, LLC, providing technical editing and document development services, and active Hopelink volunteer tutor.

The purpose of the Chapter's Applied Research Council's is to advance the Workplace Learning and Performance (WLP) profession by providing high-quality learning programs for Chapter members on how to conduct effective WLP-related research. Applied research in the WLP field includes both "front-end" research, such as needs assessment and organizational diagnosis, and evaluation research of learning program outcomes. The front-end applied research leads to better learning and performance improvement outcomes, and the documentation and reporting of outcomes improves the credibility and visibility of the profession as well as promoting continuous learning.

In 2009 the focus will be on a series of learning programs to build member skills in evaluation research, with a particular emphasis on calculating Return-on-Investment (ROI).

The 2009 ARC Meetings usually start with registration at 7:30 AM, and the programs run from 7:45 AM to 8:45 AM. Dates & Locations are TBD.
