Join #SMCA for a Rockin' Panel at our new home at KLRU in the Historic Austin City Limits Soundstage.

I'm with the Band: This month's Social Media Club Austin panel showcases the Live Music Capital of the World exploring how social media has helped bands and music social sites. Hear how they have leveraged the power of social media to draw new audiences to shows and to build closer relationships with their fans before, during and long after their shows to build a loyal following.

Panel Lineup:

Moderator: Cindy Royal @CindyRoyal

Cindy Royal is an associate professor in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Texas State University, teaching Web design and online media concepts. She completed Ph.D. studies at UT in May 2005, which is what originally brought her to Austin. She's an avid live music fan, so it was the perfect move to combine her love of music and tech. Cindy can often be spotted around town checking out some of her favorite local and regional artists, including Old 97's, Hayes Carll, Spoon, Ben Kweller, SPEAK, the Steps, Buttercup, Future Clouds and Radar, Okkervil River, Johnny Goudie, L'il Cap'n Travis and, of course, the lovely and talented Quiet Company.  She has written for Texas Music Magazine (txmusic.com) since its inception in 1999, hosts a music blog and Web talk show at onthatnote.com and a tech blog at tech.cindyroyal.com. More information about her can be found at cindyroyal.com.

Paul Osbon @QuietCompanyTX

Paul Osbon is the manager and social media voice of the Austin, TX band Quiet Company. Since becoming the manager in 2008, he has been the primary driving force behind the promotion & marketing of the band, which culminated in Quiet Company being nominated for a 2011 Texas Social Media Award and also earned the band a spot play the event at the ACL Moody Theater. His tweets are stuff of legend; one second informative & the next about as random as Lady Gaga’s outfit at an award show. By maintaining a social media strategy that is as entertaining as it is informative, and by creating “out of the box” events & promotions for Quiet Company, he has helped the band climb from unknown to earning 11 Austin Music Award nominations in just a few years. Quiet Company’s recent partnership with Grooveshark & Rocket Science will allow the band to promote their upcoming October album release without the need of the traditional record label model.

Tom Gimbel @tgimbel

Tom Gimbel is the General Manager for Austin City Limits (ACL).  Gimbel brings 20 years of major and independent label sales and marketing experience to the public broadcasting station which produces the long-running music show for PBS. Gimbel's diverse experience ranges from artist management to major label executive holding senior positions in both sales and marketing. Most recently, Gimbel founded and ran Clatterhead, a social media advertising and marketing company, and was founder and president of High Wire Management, an independent management, label services, and music distribution company with a roster of more than 20 client artists.  He has represented musician and artist Daniel Johnston for nearly 20 years and recently has worked with Seattle-based Motopony. While at Arista Records, Gimbel supervised successful sales and marketing campaigns for Carlos Santana, Whitney Houston, Outkast, and Sarah McLachlan generating hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue and multiple Grammy Awards. Additionally, he has developed several NARM Award winning campaigns for new product development in music retail stores. Gimbel oversees business development, production and digital strategies for Austin City Limits.

Daniel Senyard @dsenyard  @vivogig

Music blogger, podcaster, and Founder and CEO of vivogig, Daniel Senyard is a Texas-dwelling South African-born, English citizen who can’t play an instrument or sing a note. Despite his musical ineptitude, Daniel grew up obsessing over music and was always the one bringing new and unknown bands to the attention of his friends – his mixtapes were legendary! Daniel has worked as a writer, marketer and social media strategist for companies both big and small, local and international. vivogig is a music startup that is currently in it's beta-testing phase. The mobile rock documentary allows users capture photos and relive concerts with fellow fans and compete for music-specific prizes in a race to the top of the charts! By focusing on real-time, crowd-sourced photos, comments and reviews, vivogig takes the content generation out of the artists' hands so that they're free to drum, strum, scratch or shred; all the things that they're really good at and that we love 'em for.

Jon Carroll @joncarroll @gowalla

Jonathan Carroll is the music and community manager for Gowalla. He handles all things involving community, including events, the Gowalla blog, interacting with the Street Teams and helping build the user base around the world. On the music side, he works with musicians and bands to integrate music experiences into Gowalla, not only at shows and concerts, but also as a means of digital music distribution. Prior to Gowalla, Jonathan was the director of communications & IT at a private energy company, and also consulted on new media for a variety of businesses. Jonathan is completely obsessed with music and writes about music news for the OneThirtyBPM, as well as his personal site, thekillerobot.com. He has a penchant for all things fun, including helping Tony Hawk hide skateboards in random places. Jonathan just celebrated his 10th wedding anniversary and has two kiddos, who have been certified as the cutest on the planet by an independent research council.

Brad Bogus @Bradbogus @AudioRunner

Brad Bogus began his career communicating in Austin Texas beginning with his partnership in a video, web and e-Learning company – Makeshift Productions. In 2010, he followed client demand for Social Media guidance, and with partners built a solution. Speak Social offers custom social campaigns to businesses and artists. Brad is married, a vegetarian, proud dog parent and guitarist for Audio Runner; a band which he helps promote solely through Social Media.  Audio Runner was born of social media; they write a song each month to be released to the fans for free through their various social channels. Through utilizing social media engagement tactics, Audio Runner played their first 2 live shows at SXSW: one as the exclusive act for the Klout.com Krib party during the Interactive festival, the other at the Berklee College of Music Showcase during the Music festival. Direct to fan engagement is what drives the heartbeat of Audio Runner, and it's what keeps the fans interacting with the band on a daily basis.
