An exhibition of photographs featuring portraits taken between the years 1977 and 2008.

Artist Statement

My work deals with capturing the exceptional in the every day life. In my subject's faces, and in the locations I shoot, you see the lines, furrows, smiles, grimaces, and concerns of a moment. From a captured 125th of a second in time, the viewer is invited to see that moment as it's presented, or, if he or she desires, to ponder its past, present, and future. When observing my photographs, my wish for the viewer is to also discover the remarkable in what is often perceived as the ordinary.

About the Artist

Andrew Cohen graduated from SUNY Purchase in 1978. He has previously exhibited his work at the Puchong Gallery in the East Village in 1982 and at the Wooster Gallery in Soho in 1985.

“Mr. Cohen, your print bowls me over…if you ever wander north into Vermont, come to see me, and I will bow low.”
- Ralph Steiner, Camera Arts Magazine, June 1979

“I think he got it.”
- George Tice, Camera Arts Magazine, June 1979

“It’s amazing how “gritty” or “real” your portraits are…like I can almost smell or hear some of the people.”
- Jeffrey Burke, painter
