Annual Children Teen Salsa Congress. Yes, this is the big number 7 and we are going to San Juan, Puerto Rico! 
The Children Teen Salsa Congress will be held at the beautiful 
Conrad Condado Plaza Hotel in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
This congress unlike any other congress is Dedicated to Youth and Teen performers around the world. Not only does the Congress focus on the Youth, but it also unites 
dancers from all over the world. This Three-day event showcases talented Youth through evening performances and social Dancing. During the day, all Youth and their families have the opportunity to site the wonderful island of Puerto and also enjoy all the comfort and luxury that the Conrad Condado Plaza has to offer. No other congress in the world caters to young performers and ensures them to have 
fun both on and off stage.

Our History

The Children-Teen Salsa Congress was started seven years ago by none other than the late David Melendez. David Melendez was a performer, director, instructor and choreographer. He had been part of the Salsa/Mambo scene for over 30 years. At the age of 16, he decided he wanted to learn how to salsa after seeing his friend dance. David eventually retired from performing and began an endeavor that would to this day still influence the salsa world.

In 1992, he opened his own dance studio called Starlite Dance Studio. Starlite Dance Studio served two missions, to share Mambo with new generations and to 
serve as an outlet for youths to channel their energies into a positive skill that would enrich their cultural identity. After all, David Melendez himself started dancing as a teen and knew the impact anyone could make given the right tools. Although David Melendez lost his 6 year battle with cancer on February 2007, it is our desire to continue his legacy with this congress he worked so hard to promote for young performers. The 7th Annual Children-Teen Salsa Congress will be hosted by Edwin 
Rivera, a Starlite Dance Studio Alumni.

About the Host:

Edwin Rivera is a testament to the introduction of the arts at an early age, 

Edwin Rivera started his dance career 14 years ago under David Melendez. His career has enabled him to perform, choreograph and teach all over the world from North America, Europe, Asia, Australia, Central America and South America. 
Edwin Rivera has had the great opportunity to be involved as a 
performer/choreographer in Movies and T.V Shows such as “Along Came Polly” featuring Jenifer Aniston and Ben Stiller, “El Cantante The life of Hector Lavoe” Featuring Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony, the hit Chilean T.V Show “Rojo Fama Conra Fama/El Show de Edwin Rivera” Nikon commercials with Ashton Kutcher and MTV's MADE.
Edwin Rivera along with the Children-Teen Salsa Congress Organization would like to extend an invitation to all youth performers to be apart of this wonderful event. As a youth group director and/or dance studio owner, this is a perfect way to reward your students and youth groups for their dedication and hard work all year long to the arts. It allows them to be surrounded by their peers and social dance with students their own age. Help be a part of this great

Y nos vamos para la isla del encanto, “Puerto Rico”.
Edwin Rivera se complace en invitarles a todos al septimo Congreso Mundial de Niños y Jóvenes en Salsa. Si llegamos al gran numero 7 y pretendemos que sea genial!! El Congreso mundial de Niños y Jóvenes en salsa se llevara a cabo en el bello “Conrad Condado Plaza Hotel” en San Juan, Puerto Rico. Este Congreso a diferencia de cualquier otro se dedica única y exclusivamente a niños y jóvenes artistas de todas partes del mundo. No solo el Congreso se enfoca en los jóvenes, sino en unir bailarines de todas partes del mundo. Este evento de tres días les permite demostrar sus talentos a los participantes en las presentaciones, como también en los bailables sociales que se llevaran a cabo en las noches. Durante el día, los bailarines y sus familias tendrán la oportunidad de visitar la Maravillosa Isla del encanto, “Puerto Rico”, como también las estupendas facilidades que el Conrad Condado Plaza tiene para ofrecer. Ningún otro Congreso en el mundo se asegura de brindar tanta diversión a los participantes tanto dentro como fuera del escenario.
Nuestra Historia-
El Congreso Mundial de Niños y Jóvenes en salsa comenzó hacen 7 anos en Orlando Florida, con el concepto creado por nada más y nada menos que el Sr. David Meléndez. David Meléndez fue bailarín, director, instructor y Coreógrafo y estuvo involucrado en el ambiente de la Salsa y el Mambo por más de 30 anos. A la edad de 16 el quiso aprender a bailar después de ver sus amigos interesarse en el baile. Eventualmente David se retiro de las tarimas y comenzó entonces la travesía que le da el nombre y el prestigio que hasta este día tiene en el mundo de la Salsa.
En 1992, decidió comenzar su propio estudio de baile al que llamo Starlite Dance Studio. Este estudio se regía por dos misiones, compartir el mambo con las nuevas generaciones y servir como canal a los jóvenes para que canalizaran sus energías en destrezas positivas que enriquecieran su identidad cultural. Después de todo el propio David comenzó a bailar en la adolescencia y conocía perfectamente el impacto que representaba a un joven el recibir las herramientas correctas. Finalmente David perdió su batalla contra el cáncer en Febrero del 2007, y es nuestro deseo de continuar con su legado de realizar este Congreso el cual el mismo promovió para los jóvenes talentos. 
Edwin Rivera como ex-alubno de Starlite Dance Studio será el anfitrión del quinto Congreso de niños y jóvenes y para que le conozcan mejor aquí una breve biografía de el:
Edwin Rivera es un vivo ejemplo de lo que ayuda a un joven el introducirle al arte a una edad temprana, Edwin Rivera comenzó su carrera a la tierna edad de los 13 años bajo la tutela directa del Sr. David Meléndez. Su carrera le ha permitido bailar, coreografiar y ensenar alrededor del mundo. Ha tenido la oportunidad de visitar distantes lugares como por ejemplo y por mencionar algunos, Norte América, Europa, Asia, Australia y Centro y Sur América. También ha tenido la grandiosa oportunidad de envolverse en Películas y programas de Televisión como Along Came Polly protagonizada por Jennifer Anniston y Ben Stiller, El Cantante “la vida de Héctor Lavoe” protagonizada por Jennifer López y Mark Anthony y conducir su propio espacio televisivo el famoso programa Chileno Rojo Fama Conra Fama/ El show de Edwin Rivera.
Edwin Rivera junto con la Organización del septimo Congreso Mundial de Niños y Jóvenes en salsa desea extenderles la invitación a todos ustedes a ser parte de este maravilloso evento. Como directores de un grupo de jóvenes o propietario de un estudio de baile es una perfecta manera de premiar sus grupos por el esfuerzo y la dedicación al trabajo duro que durante todo el año han realizado. Esta experiencia les permitirá a los jóvenes rodearse y compartir con otros bailarines de su propia edad. Ayúdanos a que el sueno de David no muera y pueda seguir su legado de generación en generación.
Este ano traemos esta gran evento a la isla donde empezo la salsa, “Puerto Rico”. Contamos con compañías de baile que vendrán de todas partes del mundo como Colombia, Venezuela, Nueva York, Los Ángeles, California, Texas, Puerto Rico, Connecticut, Orlando, Chicago, Miami , Japon y muchos más…
