If first, second, and third Farata's symposiums were covering various aspects of enterprise development with Adobe Flex, this time we’ll cater to the wider audience. You'll see a number of different technologies that we're using while working on the real-world projects. These days it’s just wrong to talk about any single programming language or platform. During this full day event we'll cover a number of topics ranging from enterprise Java to mobile development for tablet devices with Adobe technologies. This is a pure technical event with zero marketing.

Symposium Program

1. Java, Web Applications, and HTML5 WebSockets for Blonds and  Blondes
9:00AM-10:00AM

We'll start the day in a fun way from explaing basic Java (20 min) quickly moving to the architecture of today's HTTP-based applications (20 min). During the next 20 minutes you'll see why WebSockets, the newly introduced in HTML 5 communication protocol will become the best choice for building real-time Web applications. For this presentation we'll use the the open source edition of Java application server Glassfish 3.1 with the Grizzly-based WebSockets support.

2. Java EE 6 for Brunettes
10:00AM – 11:00AM

This is an overview and a demo of the server-side Java programming with selected Java EE 6 technologies. In particular, you'll see the ease of working with messaging and EJB 3.1. For this presentation we'll use the open source edition of Java application server Glassfish 3.1.

3. Overview of Android platform

This presentation will show a productive way of developing Android applications using the modern Java and Flex/AIR frameworks and tools

4. Android platform with AIR and BlazeDS server in your pocket

You'll see an application, where the UI written in Adobe AIR talks to a Java Servlet container with deployed BlazeDS. Seen it already? Nope. In this demo all the client and server components live inside an Android tablet, which opens tons of opportunities.

5. Using Mobile Technologies in the Brave New World of Computing

The current status of mobile development with Adobe technologies. Developing common UI for Mobile/Desktop/Web applications and native platform integration.

6. Case Study: Developing Single-Source  Sales Automation Application using Adobe technologies

Should you develop a separate version of UI for each smart phone and tablet? Not! This is a demo of a production-grade application that was build with the common UI, PDF replacement/automation, personal cloud. During this demo you'll see one application running on desktop, iPad and Xoom tablets, and iPhone and Android phones.

7. Functional UI testing of Adobe Flex RIA
4:30PM-5:20PM

In this session you will learn how to prepare custom components for automated functional testing using Flex Automation Framework and the open source framework Flex Monkey.

Speakers' BIO

Yakov Fain is Managing Director at Farata Systems, a company that provides consulting services in the field of development of enterprise Rich Internet applications. He authored several technical books, and dozens of articles on software development. Recently he co-authored the books  "Java Programming. 24-Hour Trainer." and "Enterprise Development with Flex". Sun Microsystems has nominated and awarded Mr. Fain with the title of Java Champion, which was presented to only a hundred people in the world. He leads the Princeton Java Users Group and New Jersey Flex Users Group.

Dr. Victor Rasputnis is Managing Director at Farata Systems. He spends most of his time providing architectural design, implementation management and mentoring to companies migrating to Flex and J2EE technologies. Victor authored several books and dozens of technical articles. He holds PhD in Computer Science. Recently he co-authored the books  "Rich Internet Applications with Adobe Flex and Java: Secrets of the Masters" and "Enterprise Development with Flex". These days Victor is into development for Android.

AnatoleTartakovsky is a managing director at Farata Systems. He spent more than 20 years developing complex distributed systems. In the last ten years, his focus has been on creating frameworks and business applications for dozens of enterprises ranging from Wal-Mart to Wall Street firms. Anatole has authored a number of books and articles on AJAX, Flex, XML, the Internet, and client-server technologies. He holds an MS in Mathematics.

Viktor Gamov is senior consultant in Farata Systems specializing in design and development Rich Internet Applications for financial institutions with Adobe Flex and Java.
