July 20 – 22, 2011 Workshop

As part of ‘Design Embassy’ you are invited to express interest in
participation in a two day Service Jam online with Indian Designers to
design a service in Social Innovation.
True to the formula for Service Jams as established during the recent
Global Service Jam, a brief will be announced ‘real time’ in India and
Melbourne and groups of designers will develop and share ideas using
rapid prototyping techniques and design processes to provide vibrant and
creative solutions to community problems.
The brief is open but thought should be given to design of a potentially deliverable service.
The workshop would constitute attendance at the State of Design Festival
opening night party on Wednesday July 20 at the Royal Exhibition
Buildings with the venue open for the workshop Thursday and Friday 21 -
22 July then running through to Sunday.
Ideally it is hoped to have the services presented for display publicly on Saturday & Sunday.
Space at the venue is limited so only 20 participants can be
accommodated, selection may be necessary based on experience and/or
candour. So sign up!
Why should you participate?
As a participant in the Victoria India service jam, you will work through a whole design process in one two day session.
Whether you are experienced or completely new to the field, you will learn more about service design.
You will pick up a load of new ideas and work practices.
You will meet a lot of cool people at all levels of experience.
Your work and ideas will be reviewed by your peers, and presented to the
world, where they can be seen by potential customers or employers.
You will design something that may become a real business.
You might get rich and famous.
You will certainly have a blast.
How can you participate?
the rules for participants at the Jam are basic, they are:
Sign up by RSVP in advance, rsvp through Service Design Network or eventbrite orFestival website.
Show up on time.
You'll probably find it useful to follow the Jam on twitter (to be advised)
Bring any special tools you need.
Do not bring a team or an idea. These will form at the Jam.
Do not bring pre-made content. The services developed at the Jam should be new.
Work together in a spirit of conversation and co-operation.
Be prepared to share the results of your work under a Creative Commons license.
Have fun!

Drinks on Friday was wild ( I shouted) and a select and dedicated group got familiar with the bureaucracy.
With 4 more sleep to Wednesday night you should be limbering up with calisthenics and healthy diet because you won't have time to eat or excercise with the adrenaline fuelled workload ahead.
Come early onWednesday night (5.30 pm)if you can and ask at the door for your Victoria India Service Design Jam 'exhibitors' pass.
Its cold in Melbourne so rug up for the Jam, we will providde sandwichesfor lunch both days and Will wil administerthe back rubs.

Selection of workshop attendees
In order of ensuring the best result for the project, being a service that has potential as a live project we had gone to the Service Design network members in the first instance and have recently extended this to the social innovation networks.
Numbers are building slowly but we are aware of your individual situations and hope to close off applications on July 1, and notify successful applicants directly so as to not inconvenience.
We have had a major Indian public / private group join the Jam in "India - Future of Change" and we hope that this will lead to even more exciting developments and collaborations.
We have also secured sponsorship from Broken Gate wines so we won't have to fight at the bar on opening night for a drink.
I think I have checked the right button and given you the opportunity to link to your blog / websites so we can learn a little more about you.
Thanks for your interest and hope to be in touch soon.
