Traces of the Trade chronicles the journey of descendents of the largest slave-trading family in America as they uncover their ancestors’ history, explore the economic history of our nation, debate the origins of their contemporary wealth, and begin a quest for personal and national reconciliation. This film uses the past to propel us into a better future by launching a long overdue conversation on race, class, and privilege in America. Following the screening there will be a follow-up discussion with Traces of the Trade filmmaker, Katrina Browne and author Thomas DeWolf (Inheriting the Trade) who are both featured in the film.
Traces of the Trade: A Story from the Deep North is joining a long list of foundation-funded films that have been able to move individuals, communities, and even our nation to action. We believe Traces of the Trade could not be a more appropriate and timely film to feature at the Council on Foundations Winter Family Foundations Conference.
This screening is co-sponsored by Grantmakers in Film + Electronic Media, the Council on Foundations and Resource Generation.
