Check Your Watershed Day is a one day stream survey where volunteers are out sampling the streams in their watershed.

In Stream Teams of two to four people, volunteers will check the temperatures of small streams at road crossings and take photos of each culvert they visit.

Volunteers will be trained to take the temperature readings and where to take their photos.  You will also be provided health and safety training and all the maps and equipment needed to carry out the monitoring.

This information will help to build a better understanding of the health of the water in the upper watershed in a single point in time.  It will also help to inform stewardhsip activities and management of the watershed.

What Happens on "Check Your Watershed Day"?

  • Volunteers will meet at 1 p.m. at Terra Cotta Conservation Area for training and equipment and to meet up with other members of your group
  • Stream Teams will head to assigned sites (approx. four to six) to take temperature readings and photos.  All sites are located at road crossings.  Each team will need the use of a personal vehicle to access sites.  Please note mileage will not be covered by CVC.
  • Stream Teams (or an individual on the team) will return data sheets and equipment to one of CVC's Conservation Areas (Island Lake, Belfountain, Ken Whillans and Terra Cotta)
