US Presidential Election

CPI is hosting a unique trip to New York for those who want to analyse the future of the "special relationship" between the UK and the USA, in light of the forthcoming presidential election.

This is an open enrolment event for people from all walks including journalists, business, policy think tanks, academics and so forth.

Over the coming weeks, Barack Obama and John McCain will debate their domestic and foreign policies in more detail. The impact on the "special relationship" will become clearer which will inform the UK’s response and how this plays out here.

The event will consist of debates, discussions and an Election Night dinner. It will be led by top policy experts including Mark Seddon (diplomatic correspondent, Al Jazeera English TV), Charles O’ Byrne (Secretary to the Governor of New York State) and Joshua Friedman (Columbia University). Invited contributors include Christopher Hitchens and Amy Goodman.

It takes place from 2 – 5 November (optional return flight on 8 Nov) at The Rensselaerville Institute New York. The Institute is a beautiful 19th century estate of colonial style houses and has a long relationship with policy practitioners in the UK.

The event is priced at a special rate of £1,750 plus VAT. This includes flight, transfers, accommodation and all meals.

There’s a shopping trip included in the price and the chance to bring your partner.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to see and debate the results of an historic election as they happen.
