Inspired Faith, Effective Action
Kat Liu, UUA Washington Office for Advocacy
This workshop is a blend of theory and practice designed to help congregations be more effective in their social justice work by understanding: (1) the religious grounding of our work; (2) the essentialness of relationships and accountability to those most affected by injustice; and (3) how to work more strategically given grounding, fit, and opportunity.  A workbook will be included for future reference.

Taking UU Sexuality Education to the Community
Jacomina DeRegt,  Steve Colgan, and Rev. Don Robinson of OWL OUT
program at Beacon House Community Center in Northeast DC.
OWL OUT formed a little over a year ago with the intent of bringing OWL out of our churches and into the community. We developed models and began with a pilot in several environments where we formed teams and alliances. Come hear about what we have learned in the first year of operation, the evolving model, and how your congregation can get involved.

Video Creativity for Racial Justice - El Sawyer, Village of Arts and Humanities, Philadelphia, PA
El will bring youth and some examples of the film that he and they, in collaboration with Temple University’s film department, have developed over the years which express their issues and struggles in north Philadelphia.  He will be joined by UU youth with interests and some projects of their own.  **This workshop was initiated by youth and is open to all.

Other:

Bus Transportation from the DC Metro Area
Rev. John Crestwell (
jtcrestwell@yahoo.com) had arranged bus transportation for those coming from the DC area costing $42.00 roundtrip.  Please contact him to make reservations.  He must fill his bus by October 15 or relinquish it!

Directions to the First Church and Parking:
Directions to the church from your point of origin can be located through the church website: philauu.org.  The church is very easy to access from Rts. 76 or 676.  To find the most convenient parking, turn from Market St. onto 21st Street and proceed ½ block just past Ludlow.  To your right you will find a Parkway lot which will cost you $11 for all day Saturday and beyond that a City Parking Lot under roof which will cost you $10 for the day.  Street parking is very hard to find and tending a meter is taxing.

Accommodations in the Area:
There are numerous hotels in the City. The Latham, Radisson-Warwick, Rittenhouse, Four Seasons, Sofitel are among those in walking distance of the church.  Others, such as the Marriot Courtyard or Holiday Inn Express in Center City would require bus or other transport to the church.  Also practical would be staying at a hotel or motel near the airport.  It is just a short ride in town from that location.

Election Work Opportunity:
As you know, Pennsylvania is a critical state in the upcoming elections.  Perhaps you would want to stay over until Sunday to participate in worship with local congregations and/or do election work. The surrounding suburban counties are as critical as Philadelphia.  They are Delaware, Montgomery and Bucks.  We have churches in all of them.

You can be housed by the Obama campaign by contacting: lrothman@paforchange.com.  McCain supporters can contact their campaign leaders.
