Event Details

Planned giving IS fundraising. In this workshop you will learn why a planned giving program that begins with a good case statement and board and volunteer commitment gets quicker and better results than programs that are tax- and technique-centered. Presenter Phil Murphy emphasizes “Case-Centered Planned Giving,” an approach that shows you how to use what you already know to launch a practical and effective planned giving program, and how you can get what you don’t know – the technical side of planned gifts - as you need it.  He will cover the tools of planned giving—bequests, gift annuities, charitable remainder trusts etc—and show how in this down economy you can encourage your donors to get their estate plan organized in a way that benefits them and your organization.

Presenter Phil Murphy is an independent planned giving specialist who provides long-term planned giving consulting to nonprofit organizations.  He is past-president of the Northern California Planned Giving Council.  His work in fund raising began in 1973 as director of development for Sunny Hills Children's Services.  He began his consulting practice in 1979 with an emphasis in planned giving in which he now specializes with more than 20 current Bay Area nonprofit clients.  He received a fellowship to Columbia University in Journalism and Behavioral Science and has a Masters in Business Administration from Pepperdine University.  He was the first recipient of the Northern California Planned Giving Council’s Hoffmire Award for outstanding service to the field.
