Homebuyer Education is designed to increase knowledge and build new skills in the area of homeownership. Course materials are provided by NeighborWorks® America's. Their mission is to create opportunities for people to live in affordable homes, improve their lives and strengthen their communitites.
Subjects covered during this 8-hour course will include:
- Homeownership readiness and affordability
- Money and credit management
- Types of properties and financing available
- Purchase, mortgage and closing processes
- Home maintenance and financial management after you've bought your home
The course focuses not only on purchasing a home, but also addresses issues about keeping a home. The Lee County Housing Development Corporation is providing this event in conjunction with the REALTOR® Association of Greater Fort Myers and the Beach, Inc. This class satisfies the education requirement for downpayment and closing cost assistance for the Florida Housing Finance Corporation and the Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP).
Refreshments and lunch will be provided to participants along with a workbook. There are no fees for the class. The class is held at the REALTOR® Association Education Center located at 4081 Center Pointe Drive in Fort Myers, FL. The facility is located at the corner of Winkler Avenue and Center Pointe Drive (one block from Metro Parkway). Turn left into the first driveway on Center Pointe Drive and make a right turn to go around the building to the Education Center entrance.
