 Hedging Interest Rate Risk in Today’s Environment

This session will focus on the current interest rate hedging environment and how borrowers are addressing their risks.  The potential impact of both rising rates and increased credit/refinance activity after a zero interest rate policy is a key concern for current and potential market participants and these variables will be discussed.  Hedging these risks can help borrowers to optimize the risk/return tradeoffs inherent in protecting their interest costs.  Various strategies/approaches for hedging these risks will be illustrated and discussed.

Mike O’Donnell is a Managing Director with Wells Fargo’s Interest Rate Risk Management Group and has over 16 years of fixed income experience. Since joining Wells Fargo in 2004, Mike has held various sale coverage and management roles in the Southwest.  Prior to joining Wells Fargo, Mike spent 10 years with Mellon Bank in Pittsburgh where he had both sales and proprietary trading responsibilities.

He has a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Dayton and an MBA from Carnegie Mellon University.  

Mike is married with two children and plits his time between Los Angeles and Phoenix
