Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church, Marietta, GA, will be hosting a Spanish Immersion Weekend on March 4-5, 2005, sponsored by United Methodist Volunteers In Mission, SEJ (UMVIM).
According to Rev. Charlie Marus, missions pastor at Mt. Bethel, “Anyone who wants to begin, improve, or enhance their Spanish language skills can benefit. Instruction will be offered for everyone from absolute beginners to intermediate and advanced speakers.”
“With so many persons from Georgia involved in mission to Spanish-speaking areas, an event like this can be a great tool to enhance the fellowship that is such a vital part of the mission experience,” said Rev. Nick Elliott, Executive Director of UMVIM, SEJ.
For those who would say, “But I don’t speak ANY Spanish?” ¡no hay problema! There will be groups designed for beginners with no experience as well as groups for those with more experience. Also, simultaneous translation will be provided in all large group sessions.
Dr. Lily Goetz, head of the Spanish Department at Longwood University, Farmville, Virginia, will lead instruction. Dr. Goetz is a dynamic leader and an experienced UMVIM team member to Cuba and she has assembled a great staff.
Rev. Nora Martínez, leader of North Georgia Hispanic Ministries, and members of the North Georgia UM Hispanic community will be resource persons for the breakout groups and a Hispanic Praise Team will lead praise and worship.
The cost is $75 and pre-registration is encouraged. There is a limit of 80 people. Saturday meals are included and will be prepared by the outstanding food service team at Mt. Bethel.
