IT Project Management Challenges with Open Source
Abstract:
Open Source is a significant change agent that has had a tremendous impact on the software industry. In this financial climate, the usage of Open Source within the enterprise continues to grow but project managers should be aware of various issues that need to be considered / addressed during the Project Lifecycle, some of which include:
Ø Risk Identification (Licensing, Organization Acceptance)
Ø Risk Quantification (How will it be used, how will you obtain it)
Ø Risk Control (Understanding what teams can / can't do, support)
Ø Operational readiness (How will you handle support)
During his presentation, George Pace will level set the audience on what Open Source is and how it can be managed. He will also provide more information on the above issues and how to deal with them.
Biography:
George Pace has been with Prudential Financial for over 25 years where he has held line of business application development and corporate IT positions. In his current position, George is responsible for evolving the company's policy towards Open Source, leading several Open Source initiatives and is involved with establishing enterprise Service Oriented Architecture development best practices.
George holds a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Seton Hall University, and an MBA from the Rutgers School of Management. He is also a member of the Business Readiness Rating Steering Committee.
