In the world of fundraising, major gifts hold a somewhat mythic role. For most of the uninitiated, the idea of asking someone for a significant amount of money makes them nervous and anxious. But ask any fundraiser who regularly makes major gift requests and they will tell you (almost without exception) that it is the easiest way to raise money.

In this fun and interactive session, participants will learn the easy-to-master mechanics of the successful ask, including: identifying prospects, determining the ask amount, strategies for securing an in-person meeting, the key components of every ask, and best practices for follow-up. Using exercises and role-plays, we will cover some of the more artful areas of "The Ask", including: understanding the motivation and communication style of your donor, building an honest rapport, constructing a compelling and personal case for support, and managing donor response.

Melissa Breach, Director of Programs at the Center for Volunteer and Nonprofit Leadership, has 15 years of experience as a successful fundraiser and nonprofit leader. She has had extensive experience developing and delivering training in the areas of development, service, and organizational management.
