·  Energy Storage: Proposed projects might include, but are not limited to, components, devices, and systems based on electrochemical conversion for fuel storage, hydrogen storage, batteries, and fuel cells. This sub-topic specifically excludes photovoltaics; refer to the NM topic.

·  Energy Supply and Use: Proposed projects might include, but are not limited to, direct conversion and utilization of thermal energy, and chemical conversion of greenhouse gasses. This topic specifically excludes photovoltaics; see the NM topic. Biofuel proposals should be submitted to the ET5 subtopic above.

·  Energy and Power Management Systems:

o   Electronic systems for energy efficiency, smart grids and smart buildings

o   Electronic systems for portable energy sources for mobile technologies and off-grid type applications

o   Power management systems for energy scavenging/harvesting and compact energy conversion systems

o   Interface devices between batteries and super-capacitors

o   Novel voltage conversion, micro-inverters and DC-DC voltage converters

o   Compact hi-voltage, hi-power systems

·  Material innovations for solar electricity generation, harvesting and transmission; material and device innovations in capacitors and supercapacitors. Includes photovoltaic materials, transparent conductive coatings, materials to improve storage density in capacitors and supercapacitors etc. Refer to the BC topic for projects involving batteries and fuel cells.
