Event Details

(Opening Documentary) Via Bearzi – ‘Via Bearzi’ is the completion of a film envisioned by Michael Bearzi just before his untimely death in the Himalaya in 2002. Director, Michael Bearzi's aim was to portray the essence of two-man alpine climbing up a new route on Gyachung Kang, Himalayan Range, Tibet. Using Mike’s video and a lifetime of stunning mountain still-photography along with the accounts of his fellow climbing partners, friends Jeff Alzner and Brook Kirklin painstakingly compiled this portrait of a man on his life's journey. As an introduction, the film also documents two earlier alpine style climbs. Music by Tibetian performers produced by The Tara Cafe Project. This film reflects the motivations along with the humor and ethics of a climber who left his impression on everyone he touched.  A Documentary by Jeff Alzner & Michael Bearzi / Portland, AL / 33 min.

(Feature Documentary) This American Gothic – THIS AMERICAN GOTHIC weaves together a cultural history of one of the most famous paintings in the world with a quirky portrait of Eldon, Iowa, population 998, site of the house that inspired it. The film follows local boosters over two years as they work towards their dream of a Gothic House Visitor Center to attract tourists and save their dying small town.  A Documentary by Sasha Waters / Iowa City, IA / 63 min.

As proud as we are of all the films screening at the Estes Park Film Festival, some films may not be appropriate for small children.  These films are not rated.
