The Story of Cinco de Mayo": For all practical purposes, "Cinco de Mayo" (Spanish for fifth of May) in the United States is a national day that celebrates the culture and experiences of Americans of Mexican ancestry, much as St. Patrick's Day, Oktoberfest, and the Chinese New Year are used to celebrate those of Irish, German, and Chinese ancestry respectively.  "Cinco de Mayo" commemorates the Mexican army's unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguín. It is celebrated primarily in the state of Puebla. "Cinco de Mayo" has limited significance and celebration nationwide in Mexico, but the date has gained over the years increasing popularity across most ethnic and racial groups in the United States and other locations around the world as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride. The Story of Tapas: Tapa means "lid" or "cover" in Spanish. The origins of the modern-day tapas are not truly known, but here is one explanation that we like: At day's end, farmers and laborers would often go to the local "Tascas" (Spanish pubs serving those tantalizing appetizers known today as tapas) for a well-earned drink, on top of which they would find a slice of bread to protect it. Little by little the inkeeper would place things on top of the bread, such as cured meats and sausages as an accompanying snack. This edible "lid" was the start of the tapas we know today. Now Spanish Tapas has a new twist. Tapas with Sangria or Tequila at El Nopalito
