Films in this program: The Light, Rabia, Coons, Presence, Respect: Start the Ripple, Korea Divided, Loon

The Light - Amid the hell of World War One trench warfare, one soldier must fight fate itself to change the future and save his brother's life. A student film by T. Justin Ross / Maryville, MO / 9 min.

Rabia - Rabia is a woman who must blow herself up in order to exist. From the moment she straps explosives to her bare body, we are exposed to flashbacks of Rabia’s past, filled with abuse, rejection, and struggle. By the time she steps onto a popular Israeli beach, awaiting to kill hundreds of innocent civilians in a massive explosion, we find ourselves asking whether Rabia’s act is one of evil or one of heroism? A student film by Muhammad Ali Hasan / Starring Hanieh Jodat / Avon, CO / 24 min.

Coons – An innocent joyride is not all it seems when Rich discovers that his brother and a friend have kidnapped a black teen and thrown him in the back of their truck. Trapped with his brother's girlfriend, it becomes clear that the humiliation and cruelty are but a prelude to the true purpose of the drive, a lynching. A student film by Chris Cloyd /   Los Angeles, CA / 15 min.

Presence – Presence is a symbolic art film that chronicles the duality of a young woman's soul as a dark life she's concealed suddenly reveals itself and nearly destroys her. But, in time, she finds deliverance in One who had been with her all along.  A student film by Adam Buck & Stacey Sausa / Fort Myers, FL / 8 min.

Respect: Start the Ripple – This film is a completely unscripted narrative by middle students on the topic of respect.  It is based on the teachings of Auschwitz survivor Eva Mozeskor.   A student film by Caleb Baechtold / Lora Batchelor Middle School – Jeff Rudkin / Bloomington, IN / 15 min.

Korea Divided: The Demilitarized Zone – This documentary by 7th Grade filmmaker Dylan Goerner captures the conflict and compromise between North and South Korea from the beginning of the Cold War, to modern day. It relives the creation of the Demilitarized Zone and how it has affected the lives of many Koreans, their society, and world politics today. “Korea Divided” won first place in both the City and State competition of National History Day and has been asked to be shown at the 2008 Democratic National Convention. A film by Dyaln Goerner / Denver, CO / 10 min.

Loon – Forced to move to Florida with his eccentric parents in order to establish a stereotypical Mexican Restaurant, a young teen, Carson Lind, must confront them when he begins to suspect that there is an eerie presence in their old historic Spanish casa.  A student film by Sabi Lofgren / Los Angeles, CA / 28 min.
