Event Details

The Society of American Business Editors and Writers returns to Toronto with a training event sponsored by Google Canada to help journalists search the Web better.

"Google for Journalists: Getting the Most from the Web” will be 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, at Google Canada headquarters, 10 Dundas Street East, Suite 600, Toronto. THE EVENT IS SOLD OUT AND IS NO LONGER TAKING RSVPs.

Learn skills to make your job easier, then hang around for some hors d’oeuvres, drinks and networking with your Toronto colleagues. The event is free of charge, but please RSVP here by April 22.

This "Google for Journalists" session demonstrates ways to work more efficiently and effectively on the web. Learn how to get the most from Search and other tools. This session will introduce tips and tricks you can use to search smarter, keep better tabs on your beat, see what's hot and what's not, and add a visual edge to your online content.

The April event will be SABEW’s second Canada appearance, part of the organization’s effort to expand its services outside the U.S. This follows the successful launch event in October at the Rotman School of Management featuring Fortune Managing Editor Andy Serwer, which drew around 60 attendees.

“Everyone was so enthusiastic about the possibilities for SABEW in Canada that we wanted toget back there as soon as possible,” said Lisa Gibbs Lisa Gibbs(right), SABEW’s international committee chair. “Google has conducted these seminars at all of our recent major U.S. conferences, and we’re excited to bring this kind of training — which is at the core of what SABEW does for its members — to Toronto.”

In addition to the Canada events, SABEW created International categories for its prestigious Best in Business competition this year for the first time, which will be handed out at our annual conference in Dallas. “We’re always looking for more ideas on how we can serve Canada,” Gibbs said.

SABEW has 3,200 members, representing every kind of outlet for business and financial journalism, from freelancers and niche websites to daily newspapers and the largest wire services. The organization, through training programs, conferences and other member services, supports excellence in business reporting throughout the world. Click here for more about SABEW's programs and services.
