Title: GME & other types of Encephalitis
Presenter: Mark Troxel, DVM, DACVIM (Neurology)
CE: This lecture is pending approval for 2 CE credits.
Synopsis:
This lecture will focus on
the different types of encephalitis that are commonly seen in New England in
dogs and cats.
History, clinical signs
associated with different areas of central nervous system (CNS) involvement,
and diagnosis of encephalitides will be covered first. Following this, each disease
will be discussed in detail with regard to treatment options and
prognosis.
The lecture will primarily
focus on “non-infectious” diseases, such as Granulomatous Meningoencephalitis
(GME) and Necrotizing Encephalitis (a.k.a., “Pug Encephalitis”). Additionally, a brief review
of each of the common infectious diseases that commonly affect the CNS of dogs
and cats will also be presented.
