Increasing numbers of investors are discovering Master Limited Partnerships (MLPs) as a steady source tax-advantaged income with potential for capital appreciation. You may have heard of a publicly traded partnerships or a master limited partnership but you are unsure what they are and how they may fit in your portfolio This presentation will review the basic structure of MLPs, type of companies and why MLPs are considered tax-advantaged. Ms. Lyman will walk through how MLPs are they are structured, what type of companies are MLPs and review their tax-advantaged structure. Mr. Robert and Mr. Hickerson represent member MLPs and will present more an in-depth look at Vanguard Natural Resources LLC and Holly Energy Partners, L.P.

Mary S. Lyman
Ms. Lyman serves as Executive Director of the National Association of Publicly Traded Partnerships (NAPTP), a trade association representing publicly traded partnerships (more commonly known as “master limited partnerships”) and those who work with them. Ms. Lyman has worked with the Association and with publicly traded partnerships for over 25 years. She began her career in Washington as a legislative assistant to a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, and subsequently was employed as a consultant assisting clients with complex legislative and legal issues. Ms. Lyman is currently a Director at Gnarus Advisors LLC, which provides management services to NAPTP. Ms. Lyman received a BA from Dickinson College and her JD from Harvard Law School.
Richard A. Robert
Mr. Robert is the Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Secretary of Vanguard Natural Resources, LLC (NYSE: VNR) and has served in such capacities since January of 2007. Mr. Robert is also Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Director of the general partner of Encore Energy Partners LP (NYSE: ENP). Prior to joining Vanguard, Mr. Robert was involved in a number of entrepreneurial ventures and provided financial and strategic planning services to a variety of energy-related companies since 2003. He was Vice President of Finance for Enbridge US, Inc., a subsidiary of Enbridge Inc. (NYSE: ENB) a natural gas and oil pipeline company, after its acquisition of Midcoast Energy Resources, Inc. in 2001 where Mr. Robert was Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer. He held these positions from 1996 through 2002 and was responsible for acquisition and divestiture analysis, capital formation, taxation and strategic planning, accounting and risk management, and investor relations. Mr. Robert is a certified public accountant.
M. Neale Hickerson
Mr. Hickerson joined Navajo Refining Company, a wholly owned subsidiary of Holly Corporation (NYSE:HOC) in 1994 as assistant to the Vice President of Crude Supply. From 2000 through 2004, Mr. Hickerson served as Director of Special Projects for Holly Corporation. From January 2004 to February 2005, Mr. Hickerson served as Vice President, Treasury and Investor Relations for Holly Corporation. Mr. Hickerson currently serves as Vice President, Investor Relations. Mr. Hickerson also serves as Vice President of Investor Relations for Holly Energy Partners (NYSE:HEP), a master limited partnership formed by Holly Corporation in 2003. Prior to 1994, Mr. Hickerson was employed by Crowell, Weedon & Co. and served as an equity trader and specialist on The Pacific Stock Exchange. Mr. Hickerson obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and a MBA from the University of Southern California.

The AAII Silicon Valley Chapter is affiliated with the American Association of Individual Investors (AAII), a nonprofit corporation founded in 1978 for the purpose of assisting individuals in becoming effective managers of their own assets through programs of education, information and research.
AAII local chapters are grassroots organizations led by volunteer AAII members, and allow AAII to extend its mission "person to person" to individual investors in their own communities by offering meetings that provide unbiased investment education in a social context.
