In one informative session, recruiting and student services staff will introduce the:

-Master of Public Affairs

-Public Affairs Leadership Certificate

-Nonprofit Management Certificate

-Policy Issues on Work and Pay Certificate

The 12-credit core of the Master of Public Affairs (MPA) and the Public Affairs Leadership Certificate are offered as a combination of on campus and online sessions. The program starts with an intensive, introductory week in August, followed by Friday/Saturday gatherings once a month between September and May.

It's the perfect combination: the intensity and depth of in-person instruction paired with the convenience of online coursework.

The core curriculum of the Master of Public Affairs and the Public Affairs Leadership Certificate emphasizes leadership and policymaking theory and practice, and students design their own area of concentration around their career interests. The MPA prepares students to:

-Assume leadership positions

-Make career changes

-Enhance current work skills

The Public Affairs Leadership Certificate is a stand-alone credential composed of the core curriculum of the MPA. The Nonprofit Management Certificate prepares individuals to assume or continue leadership roles within the growing nonprofit sector. Designed to give professionsls the insight and ability to better understand and evaluate federal, state, and local policies that affect the employment relationship, the Policy Issues on Work and Pay Certificate is another option for working professionals.

Who are the students?

The MPA and PAL Certificate are designed for mid-career professionals with the equivalent of 10 or more years of professional experience.

Are you ready to go back to school?

The MPA and PAL recognize your work and life experience. The program faculty and staff also understand students' concerns about going back to school when they already are on a career track or after many years away from academic pursuits. We-and your fellow students- will help you every step of the way. Yes, returning to school and balancing other commitments is challenging.

Is this program right for you?

If career advancement, change and rejuvenation, or deepening your capacity to bring effective solutions to public problems is your goal, then Humphrey School is the right choice.

Can you find the time?

Yes, you can.

Both the core of the MPA and the entire PAL certificate are offered in an innovative hybrid format whereby students attend one week-long session on campus in Minneapolis and attend monthly Friday-Saturday gatherings. Between monthly gatherings, students collaborate and engage with the curriculum online. The maximum flexibility and distance learning model allows busy professionals from across Minnesota and the region the opportunity to study at the Humphrey School.
