Event Details
Great Falls of the Potomac River is one of the scenic wonders of the Mid-Atlantic where kayakers and Great Blue Herons brave the thundering rapids of the Potomac River. we will have a weekend of grand landscape photography, wildflowers and waterfalls. Each morning we will head out to some of my secret locations along Mather Gorge. In the early morning, we will have a chance to photograph the wonderful display of wildflowers in Algonquian Park as well as small waterfalls and cascades along Difficult Run & Scott’s Run Preserve. As always the afternoon are filled with critiques and classroom work on post processing techniques. After a short break, we re enter the park to photograph Great Blue Herons and then finish each day chasing the light and clouds above thundering rapids and waterfalls in Mather Gorge.
Friday: We will meet in the park for a sunset shoot followed up by a two hour critique session that night at the hotel. On Saturday we will shoot from dawn until around 10am, have a break and then a 4 hour post processing classroom session at the hotel. We will spend the rest of the day shooting until after sunset in the park. On Sunday, we will have a morning shoot from dusk until 10am. The workshop ends on Sunday after the morning shoot.
Joseph will teach a variety of techniques—both in the field and in the classroom—that
will allow you to advance both your technical skills and artistic
vision. We focus on a number of professional field techniques to help
you create dramatic and powerful nature images, including:
• Working with dramatic light, including sunrise and sunset;
• The fundamentals of powerful compositions; and
• Abstract techniques for creating artistic photographs.
We’ll also teach you a number of professional “digital darkroom”
secrets as well. Our hands-on intensive seminars—held during the middle
of the day when the light is not conducive for photography—will teach
you the fundamentals of image processing, and allow you to master
important techniques including:
• Working with adjustment layers;
• Layer masking and image blending techniques;
• Making difficult selections;
• Color management; and
• Special effects techniques used for artistic expression.
In addition, we'll explore a number of artistic philosophies that will help you find your own personal vision.
