WCP and Gravity A Present: The BIG LeBACCHANALski
Gravity A is
ready to bring in Mardi Gras day once again with one of their epic
Sunrise sets. This night will feature 2 full sets of Gravity A, special
surprises throughout the night, and full sets from all of these top
notch performers:
*Gravity A
...
... Developing out of a city that is inundated with musical vibrations,
Gravity A exhilarates New Orleans' rich musical tapestry with their
fresh, dynamic energy and innovative sound. This five years old quartet
is inspired by the soulful jazz expressions and second-line fusions of
their hometown, yet still draws heavily upon the eclectic possibilities
of electronic progressions. Gravity A has become the torchbearer for
the city's late night soundtrack featuring the unmistakable sound of
true New Orleans funk, tight drum n' bass breaks and intoxicating
trance. The band's unique sound is highly dependent upon the musicians'
passion for live instrumentation and improvisation, which often lends
itself to a rambunctious adventure grooving through sunrise. As opposed
to Newton's well-known gravity b, Gravity A has taken their name from
the force responsible for the cohesion and semblance of all subatomic
matter. At a Gravity A show in New Orleans or beyond, this force is
intense and irrefutable. The dance floor is transformed into a frenzy
as the polar vibrations of Gravity A's magnetic rhythms and
far-reaching frequencies resonate amongst the bopping feet, shaking
hips, and smiling faces.
Gravity A has performed live sets with:
Dr.
Fameus (Allen Aucoin of the Disco Biscuits); Mike Dillon (Les
Claypool's Frog Brigade); Big Sam; Johnny Vidacovich (Astral Project);
Tim Sullivan; Kirk Joseph (Dirty Dozen); Khris Royal; Michael Skinkus;
Jon Gross; Michael Burkart; Billy Iuso; Tim Green (local saxaphone
legend).
Gravity A has opened for/ headlined after:
Dr.
Fameus (Allen Aucoin of the Disco Biscuits), Break Science, Nadis
Warriors, Bonobo (live band), Ooah, Orchard Lounge, Pnuma Trio, Signal
Path, EOTO (members of String Cheese Incident), Lotus, Lyrics Born,
Dubconscious, Girl Talk, Breakage (UK), Marcus Intalex (UK), Freaky
Flow, Rebirth Brass Band, Mike Dillon's Go-Go Jungle; Elemental
Harmonics; System Obsolete; Groovesect, The Trio.
*DJ Quickie Mart
Quickie Mart got his start in the smoke filled, late night bar scene of
New Orleans pre-Katrina. Since then, he has relocated to Los Angeles,
toured the world, recorded numerous projects, and still manages to play
in his hometown at a minimum of once a month.
Quickie’s
accolades include playing large events like SXSW, Vegoose, and Zen
Festival. He has been featured twice at the New Orleans Jazz &
Heritage Festival, three years at Voodoo Music Festival, and five years
in a row at Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival. He has shared stages with
artists such as George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic, Jurassic 5,
RJD2, The Ting Tings, Fishbone, Lyrics Born, Joss Stone, Perry
Farrell's Satellite Party, DJ Klever, Particle, Akon, Gift Of Gab,
Inspektah Deck, and Lilly Allen, …just to name a few. He also had the
honor of performing on stage with the legendary Mac “Dr. John”
Rebennak. Whether touring as a solo artist, or on the road with other
acts like Galactic, Q-Tip, Shwayze, and The Cool Kids, Mart’s sets have
captivated audiences world wide.
QM has been featured on
numerous television programs including Current TV, Louisiana’s famous
Dew Drop Inn, and one season on NBC’s Last Call with Carson Daly’s as
the show’s resident DJ. He has worked in the studio with heavyweight
artists like Freddie Gibbs, UPT/Universal’s Juvenile, Grammy nominated
Planet Asia, ANTI/Epitaph’s Galactic, and Stone Throw’s Percee P. In
late 2009, Ben Ellman and Quickie released the “Gypsyphonic Disko”
which was downloaded more that 30,000 times, and rated as one of Nerve
Magazine’s Top 5 Albums you should be listening to. His most recent
project, Haze Diaires Vol. 3 with Gotham Green peaked at number 3 on
the CMJ Hip Hop charts.
Quickie Mart has also received press in
URB Magazine, Blender, Filter, XLR8R, and Offbeat magazines, and was
hailed “New Orleans’ Hip Hop Champion” by LA Weekly. In addition to
consistently recording and touring QM has also served as the tour DJ
for acts like The Knux, iCON the Mic King, Freddie Gibbs, Gotham Green,
and Devin the Dude.
Quickie knows no musical bounds as an
artist, and now after accomplishing so much in such a short amount of
time, being so young, it's easy to see why Quickie Mart has attracted
so many people to his music - and even easier to expect much more from
him in the future.
