USAfrica, the multimedia networks and international public policy center based in Houston, Texas, will celebrate its 15th Anniversary by hosting a two-day (August 8 n 9 2008) event. Friday and daytime Saturday will feature celebrations, symposium and poetry on the landmark literary work 'Things Fall Apart' published in 1958 by Chinua Achebe, the acclaimed and undisputed father of modern African literature. Saturday night Aug 9, 2008 is the USAfrica BEST OF AFRICA Banquet where the 1st USAfrica Lifetime Achievement award will be presented to the distinguished Achebe.

Event will feature leading scholars on Africa, African literature and scholarship, new voices in the world of writing/literature, public policy executives, leaders in government and communities, book publishers and retailers, teachers, students and librarians, information technology specialists, dramatists and artistes. Call for Papers/Presenters

USAfrica and AchebeBooks.com are currently seeking papers, abstracts, panel speakers and proposals. Papers will be accepted from all disciplines and demographics. Priority will be given to papers dealing with trans-generational issues and themes related to Achebe's Things Fall Apart and Achebe's works. Extended deadline is July 20, 2008. Submissions are planned for publication in the special USAfrica Harvest of Achebe, www.AchebeBooks.com, and on the forthcoming website www.AchebeThingsFallApart.com. Format of files: Simple Text or Microsoft Word .doc files only (pls do Not send .docX files). Abstracts should be 800 words or less. You may attach multimedia/video/audio files and identified photo(s).
